About us

Centred around a beautiful neo-Jacobean hall, the Preparatory school and purpose built Pre-Prep and Nursery facilities nestle in 100 acres of stunning, private woodland. Just six miles from Norwich City centre and providing weekly and flexi boarding options, our school is a popular choice with local and long distance families alike.

Mission Statement

Our mission at Taverham Hall School is to create a community of empowered learners in a family atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.

Our pupils are encouraged to make decisions for themselves, have respect for one another, forge lasting friendships and develop their social skills whilst gaining an appreciation of the wider natural world. Pupils are actively involved with target setting and recognising the value of their responsibility in the learning process. Within the school’s 100 acre campus, our pupils have the opportunity, time and space to grow.

Aims

Each pupil, whatever their ability, will be motivated to develop skills, interests and understanding through personalised, academic learning programmes and investigative hands-on experiences in the school’s unique woodland environment.

Academic excellence

We believe an education should stretch, inspire and develop every child. For us it’s all about opportunity and choice through small classes. Focus is on personalised learning and target setting with an awareness of each individual’s learning style.

Our examination success at scholarship and common entrance level is impressive with over sixty scholarships having been won over the past decade. This year’s Year 8 leavers all gained places at their first choice senior schools.

First-class facilities

The historic façade of Taverham Hall belies the fine facilities within. Purpose built Pre-Prep and Nursery rooms provide a child friendly environment, specific to their needs. Recent additions to the Pre-Prep and Prep schools include a new ICT suite, IT systems and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. All facilities are within school grounds, providing safe and easy access for your children at all times. View the full list of our school facilities.

Superb, supportive care

A supportive and nurturing environment is provided for all of the children in our care. We also understand working parents and busy schedules, so for day pupils we offer after school clubs, evening meals and flexible boarding options. Each is helpful for you and fun for your children.

‘The quality of pastoral care is excellent. It is extremely well organised so that pupils always feel safe and well cared for in the happy family atmosphere.’ ISI Inspection report November 2010

Taverham Hall is multi-denominational. Whilst since its foundation in 1921, the school has had its roots in the Christian faith, it welcomes and values the beliefs of all faiths, cultures and nationalities. Encouraging each pupil’s spiritual discovery and expression is an important part of our work. Our assemblies offer the opportunity for reflection and consideration of the values, beliefs and principles held in common by all faiths.

Charitable trust

Taverham Hall School is a charitable trust, administered by a board of Governors.

The Headmaster is also a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools which is the professional association for Heads and Deputy Heads of the leading 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.

Members of the IAPS are all committed to the pursuit of an excellent, well-rounded education – valuing academic success and the personal development of each individual child through an unrivalled range of opportunities in sport, music, modern and classical languages, art, drama, science, technology, and the early years.
